Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - South Par-3 Course
About
The South Par-3 Course is one of two par-3, public golf courses that Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills offers. In total there are four courses, varying in length and size, at Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills. Unlike the 7-hole North Par-3 Course, the South Par-3 has 9 holes and it is 1,060 yards from its longest tees. The course is quite challenging for a par-3. Water hazards come into play on four of the nine holes. It offers excellent practice for those wanting to improve their short game as it tests several different handicaps. Although less demanding than the 18-hole Gold Course, the South Par-3 is a great short course.

Mixed feelings
I wish the Par 3 course at Hyland would get a little more attention maintenance wise. The fairways are nicely kept but the tee boxes are in rough shape and the greens are usually littered with branches and leaves.
Lots of people seem to sneak on or do warm up holes for their tee time on the other courses, which is frustrating.
Course is a bit rough.
The greens were newly sanded and terrible, and there were small branches and debris all over the course. The bunkers were also in disrepair. I am sure that they are working on it, but they should really be discounting greens fees until they get is a little bit more playable.
Trash Everywhere
The trash cans were over flowing and there was trash laying everywhere.
Needs Help!
I have played the south par 3 since before they built the condos around that course. It was a perfect day for golf - other golfers were in a great mood as well. We mentioned to the staff that they had maintenance people roaring through everyone's back swings with no regard to players- and each time they did go roaring by, they paid no attention to the few garbage cans at the t-boxes that were overflowing to the point that there were heaps of garbage on all t-boxes. Water the greens please!!
Great value for casual or new golfers
It's a very well priced short course with enough challenge for new players or anyone just looking to fill an hour or two with golf. There was a pair of VERY slow golfers who had our group of 4 and the groups of 4 ahead and behind us stacked up and waiting so the game took at least 50% longer than necessary. The course is well maintained and the staff is friendly. It's a good go-to for family golf outings.
Saturday on the Course
Greens had just been aerated so nothing rolled right; nothing on the website to indicate this condition. Pace of play was terrible - a foursome had six groups stacked up at each tee box after the first four holes. Took 2hr 15min to play what normally takes 1hr 15min. Chalk it up to the first really beautiful Saturday in Colorado so everyone wanted to play golf. Will be back. It’s a great course to practice the short game.
Thrown together Par 3
This par 3 was closer to a chip and put course, with only two holes over 100 yards out of only 9. The grounds weren’t well maintained, half the holes had either gravel or no cart path at all. In general it felt like this Par three was an after thought. The clubhouse and attendants in the shop were very nice, which made the quality of the course that much more of a let down. The foursome in front of us were allowed to share one bag of clubs for them all; so what could’ve taken an hour, was closer to 2 hours+. Additionally, every tee box was chopped to bits and the mats provided were warped and worn. All in all, we felt we would’ve got better use from our money by going to the putt putt course next door. Furthermore, the website didn’t advertise this to be a 9 hole course instead of 18. Unfortunately, it seems like they only care about their full course, which we will not even be attempting after such a bad experience.
Love the greens on this course!
We love Hyland Hills. The price is competitive and they take good care of their courses. The par 3 tee areas were a little beat up, so they had mats out, which we completely understood. That being said, the course and the greens were beautiful, well-kept, and overall just amazing!
Dog Daze
I actually like this course: Hyland Hills South Par3 isn't fancy, but it's normally fun and a good value close to home. However this particular warm sunny January day, I had to watch my step carefully to avoid massive piles of dog poop starting near the 5th hole and continuing through 6,7,8 and 9; my playing partner and I lost count of the appalling and unsanitary hazards littering fairways. There are a number of apartment buildings along this stretch so it's possible some neighboring dog owner(s) could be responsible. But I've played here maybe ten times in the last year and a half, but I never saw this before.
Bring your wedges, leave everything else.
Basic and boring, the best hole is #4, 7 of the 9 are less than 100 yards so that’s a bummer. I guess I’m not the person it was built for.
