Colorado National Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Colorado National Golf Club is an 18-hole, public course that is situated just 20 minutes north of Denver. Jay Morrish designed the formerly known as Vista Ridge golf course with a traditional links-style layout. The course covers 7,676 yards of golf from its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. Rolling fairways lined with native grasses and large, undulating greens make the golf course interesting, while beautiful views of snow-topped mountains provide pleasant scenery. The course has many bunkers as well as water hazards. Colorado National Golf Club also features five sets of tee boxes for golfers to work on a number of different handicaps.

Terrible greens and the slowest play on the front range
I've played this course twice now, taking advantage of golfnow deals. Each time has required more than 5 hours to play. Last summer, we only got through 14 holes before losing light - and that was 4.5 hours after starting. This most recent round took nearly 5.5 hours! I think I'm done, despite it being the closest course to me, and 30 bucks with a deal.
I like the layout of this course, and it should be a fun course to play. The starter says to play "contact golf", keeping in contact with the group ahead. But nobody patrols. And you will wait on every shot.
The fairways are nice, well kept. As are the tee boxes, mostly. The course isn't difficult if you can keep your drives in or near the fairways. Go too far left or right, however, and you'll be in the native grasses. Don't get the carts anywhere near them - they'll stop working. Getting out of the grasses is hit or miss - you could be sitting with a clean swing, or have a clump of grass interfering.
The greens are an entirely different story - they're still terrible (read every review from last summer). The ball was bouncing on several putts. Almost the entire length of the putt! And they're hard as a rock, already! I broke a plastic ball mark repair tool. Some of the greens fine, others had tons of ball marks.
Oh, and the beverage cart doesn't carry coins for change, according to the girl I spoke to. How convenient for them - an extra 50 cents on any single beverage purchase. Don't think they didn't plan that on purpose.
You're better off spending more to golf somewhere else. These guys are clearly in it just to take your money.
Love this course
Normal Colorado weather (Wind and clouds) then it cleared up to be a perfect golf day on the back nine.
The course was in great condition although the greens we still a bit slow after being aerated a few week ago. But they were still very nice.
The rest of the course was in great shape as well and I love the new chipping area. I have always loved this course from the day it opened.
Nice layout
My first time playing Colorado National. Great layout! The holes are challenging and the views are beautiful. This is early season so the greens were a little funky(something is going on); but not bad. Fairways and tees were in great shape. It was a nice day and I tee'd off at noon, a 5 hour round. Again, early season, so they are under staffed. Don't stop at the break for food or drink. It takes way too long. The beverage cart came around on a regular basis.
Thank you for the feedback! The course in the spring gets the POA grass growing at a faster rate then the bent. It certainly is now in great shape. Sorry for the delay at the turn. We do have on cart GPS ordering which can speed up the process when you turn by having you order ready. Hope to see you soon.
Great time at C-Nat
Always a great experience at C-Nat. Little pricey (like all courses), but always a friendly staff, and I like courses that offer a combo t-box, like copper and gold tees.
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoy the course.
89SHot!
had a good round for my self and just fit my eye really well. Putting greens not super hard but not super slow . moderate, right were I like them. They could actually hold approach shots well.
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you had a great time! hope to see you back very soon.
Good course, nice layout, bonus length
We enjoyed this course with lots of length options for short to durn long (7676 y). Staff was friendly. For winter conditions, things were really quite good. Given a dearth of fellow golfers, we walked it, and it's long but doable; however, a packed course wouldn't make it reasonable. #3 had a temporary green ~60y short, which was a surprise. Still it putted reasonable well. For the back tees, the shortest par 3 was 202 by GPS. Longest hole was 686 by GPS, still reachable in 3. Greens rolled pretty well. Lots of nearby houses but far enough away. Full value. Recommended, especially if you find a deal.
Thanks for your feedback. We are sorry you didn't know about #3. Our bad. We covered it for the winter and actually pulled the cover off today. Hope to see you back!
Long Course
Very long course. Course conditions were decent. It was early season, however there was one green closed and the "hole" was on the fairway. The greens were also behind some other courses at the time. Fun setup to play.
Thank you for the feedback! Happy to have you out again as the course is in great shape.
challenging but not ridiculous
big beautiful course. Excellent pace of play.
I'm an 18 handycap. I shot 94. from the white tees Enjoyed myself immensely !
Great Course, great value
This is a fun course to play. Holes aren't too long or difficult. All moderately challenging and the facilities are in great shape.
Great views
Enjoyable course with multiple tees. Greens were bumpy and full of unrepaired ball marks.
Fairways are generous. We played as a twosome at 1:30 PM. Took us over 4 hours.
We did eat dinner at the course. Martinis we very skimpy. Food was average.
Much better than I remembered
Played here 3 years ago. It rained and spit snow on us and we nearly froze to death. When the weather cleared up we finished the round. Very dissappointing day.
Fast forward to the last week of Sept 2015. Beautiful weather, no wind, short sleeves. Perfect golf day no matter what course we played.
The views of the mountain range were breath taking on the back nine.
Tee to green:
Tee boxes were perfect. Some were a little spongy.
There were crews seeding, sanding, and leveling, something you don't see very often.
The fairways were plush. Very player friendly. The rough was fair....didn't want to be in it but not a round killer if you were.
The bunkers were all dressed and raked and actually had sand in them. Played other area courses with crusty hard pan that unfairly affected the round.
The greens were perfect. Not as slick as I would like but rolled true. They ask that you repair your ball mark and one other...this works because I found myself looking for a ball mark to fix and often could not locate one. Everyone must be doing the same. Makes for a fun day putting.
Pace of play was good. Played in 4 hours as a twosome behind a twosome. GPS tells you if you are behind...nice feature. The beer cart came by 4 times during the round. The club house and practice facilities top notch.
Playing note....Don't let the GPS hole review persuade you into going for the green on 17. Just hit it down the middle then a wedge to the green.
1st Nine closed
Aerating 1-9 greens closed, that is why it's so cheap don't buy.
Greens are needing overhaul
The course states Bent grass greens, this is a dated statement. The greens are either overrun by poa annua, or simply cannot grow grass of any type. A temporary green on hole #3 was in play on Sept 11th, neither the starter or GPS system mentioned this, therefore two players hit to the green, surprise! This once was a terrific course but appears to have declined with no stop insight. At the grill a homeowner, overheard our comment and stated without any hesitation the level of dissatisfaction with the condition of the course and impact to surrounding property values.
Great Golf Now value, but poor player care
I've enjoyed playing this course from all men's tees except the full back since the course opened as Vista Ridge some years ago. The course has been in better condition as, it appears, players are gouging fairways, ripping divots more than an inch deep and not replacing the torn turf and leaving deep ball marks in every green. I repaired at least three ball marks on every green, but could not save the fairways, as most of the "pelts" were dried and yards from the divot patch. One green was closed and under repair and using a temporary green about 30 yards short of the normal green.
Overall, this was a great value and another great day in Colorado!
Food and service in the bar/grill was excellent! I can recommend the Club sandwich, but you my want to ask that the third piece of bread be left off - otherwise the best I've had in years!
Good test of akills
Played gold tees and scored ok but will know course better for next round. Tips from GPS are solid and useful.
Great Day = great course for the $
Had a GREAT day w/my wife yesterday out at CO Nat'l.
Greens were FINALLY in great shape and running true. Totally nice track. Excellent pace of play were we had no one in front and a group getting on tee box as we were walking off the green - couldn't be more perfect!
nice view
the reception at the front desk could have been more friendly. greens and fairways are in need of some work/repair. one would think that such a course would be in better shape. also, there was temporary green. no mention of that before we teed off. when i pay for 18 holes, i expect to be putting on 18 greens! i still would recommend playing this course because i've played it when it was in better condition. but before making your reservation, call and ask questions about their conditions.
Downhill sharply over the past three years
The guys working the desk are unfriendly (jerks to be honest). The course is a disaster. Greens are embarrassing. I live right down the street, and will drive out of my way to go somewhere else. Played here 20-30 times over the past 6 years or so, and I have given enough chances. Won't return and can't recommend.
Bummer
Greens are AWFUL
I played out there on August 30. The greens are in the worst shape I've ever seen. They have one green on the front nine closed, so you have to play to a temporary green, which is the shaved fairway in front of the original green. The kicker is they still charge full price to play the course, when it is in terrible shape.
Bold move
I cannot believe they are charging more than $20 to play these greens. Nothing is more frustrating to me than having no idea if a good putt is going to roll true. I play a lot, and I like co national's design, but these greens are unforgivable
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you had a great time!
