About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 72
Length 7084 yards
Slope 141
Rating 73.4

Along with a nine-hole, par-3 course, Green Valley Ranch Golf Club also offers an 18-hole championship length course. Designed by Perry Dye, the course is 7,241 yards at its longest tees and plays to a par of 72. The course is a short distance south of the Denver International Airport and downtown Denver is easily accessible. The course is challenging and also scenic; it is not a rare occurrence to see wildlife such as deer on the course. Dye successfully incorporated the natural landscape of the area. The natural creeks and wetlands as well as the beautiful cottonwood trees were kept in tact. The course has received several honors from widely read golf magazines such as Golf Digest and Golf Week.

Green Valley Ranch never disappoints. There are a lot of good holes on the course and it is a good test of the golfer's abilities. Get ready to hit every club in the bag and have a great time.

Fairways are pretty generous on most holes, but there are a few that require precision off the tee. Each side has a driveable par 4, but they do not come without risk. The collection of par 3s out here is quite diverse, and the par 5s play like true 3 shot holes, especially 18. Lots of variety keeps the course very interesting throughout the round.

Conditions are good and greens are rolling quite fast. Apparently the 17th was under water for awhile, but it has recovered nicely.

Pace of play was great, the staff is wonderful and the facility is one of the best in the area. GVR is consistently good and one of the best tracks in the area.

Green Valley Ranch Is A Must Play

This was my 1st time playing Green Valley Ranch. The course is located near the Denver International Airport and it held the 2016 NCAA D-II Golf Championships.

Upon arrival, they have a driving range near the golf shop, with free balls to hit and music playing in the background. They have a nice short game practice area too. They also have a par 3 course which you can play anytime the day you play their 18-hole course.

My initial impressions of the management of this course were they “are on the ball”. It snowed the day before we played. They sent us emails giving us updates if the course was going to be open, any frost delays, if tee times were delayed, etc. I guess the course has a sandy base under the fairways, because it was carts in the fairway after 4.5 inches of snow the day before.

The most impressive thing about this course was it was relatively flat and all the holes were different. I could remember all 18 holes after the round. We were standing on the 14th tee box and everyone in my threesome said we were really enjoying the course. The course is right and front of you and there is no trickery to it at all. The course is generous off the tee, which makes for an enjoyable round.

The greens are huge and were in great shape for early November. Looked like they were a mix of bent and poa annua grasses. The fairways were outstanding too. This course had some of the most consistent, dense rough you will ever see. It was mowed short, so your lies in the rough were perfect. With huge greens, too many people are forgetting to fix their ball marks. The carts had GPS screens on the dash of the carts. The GPS gave you the option to see a flyover of the holes too.

There are mountain views throughout the course, with more of them on the back nine. I thought the back side was more picturesque. On the front, my favorite hole was hole 2, with strategically placed two large trees. Hole 10, the second shot is scary with trouble just off the green on both sides. Hole 12, you need to pick the correct line as the fairway is just past the water - at an angle. Hole 13 is a beautiful par 3 with water in front and mountains as the backdrop. We all thought the 15th hole was the prettiest. Hole 16 requires you to review the flyover screen to get a feel of the short par 4. I also thought the par 3, 17th hole was picturesque too - with a huge green. Hole 18 requires you to be precise on your second shot as the fairway cuts across with trouble on both sides.

The course has a good mixture of long and short holes and it is a fun, playable course. We really enjoyed Green Valley Ranch.

After all 3 CO Opens have concluded this course is in great shape. Greens are as fast as I've ever played them. The whole course is playing very fast. Fantastic conditions all around.

Overrated

Not a bad course, but not worth it for $100+ per round ---- most of the fairways were in good condition but the rough + the greens were already browned out and the greens were rolling incredibly fast with a minority of folks fixing ball divots ----- the halfway house staff was incredibly rude and dismissive as we were actively trying to order food, regret spending anything

Awful management

Matt Bryant the head pro at GVR is completely unprofessional, dishonest, and I have watched him treat members and staff with complete and utter disrespect.

Refuses to address any issues and throws his employees under the bus. Decent course, ran by disgusting excuse for a human being. If you like a rude staff with a poor chain of command, run with by a good ole boy, network. This is the course for you.

Great Course

I've lived in Colorado Springs for 6 years and for some reason I have never made the drive to play Green Valley Ranch. I wish I hadn't waited so long.

This isn't a course with great scenery like Arrowhead or Bear Dance, it goes through a housing development but the houses are not right on top of you.

Course conditions were excellent, greens rolled true, rough and fairways very good and bunkers well maintained. Lots of tees to choose from, we played the blue/gold combo. Only hole I didn't care for was #16 as you had a narrow landing area if you wanted a clear shot to the green. I blocked my tee shot, still in the fairway but had to go over some very large trees.

Nice carts and had great GPS included with them. Beverage cart was seen numerous times, and prices reasonable.

Weekday afternoon round took 4:20, it slowed up some on the back side but still under their 4:30 goal.

It will not be another 6 years before playing this again.

One of the best publics in CO

GVR rules. It may not be the most stunning course visually but the layout is simply a blast to play. If you appreciate nuanced course design and really having to think through every single shot, GVR is your track. There’s a reason they play the CO Open here. This place is absolutely legit and will hold your attention from start to finish. I’ve played around North America a good bit at a number of highly regarded tracks and the shot value here is as high as anywhere.

Yes, GVR lies on a mostly flat piece of property and is routed pretty much entirely through a residential development. Don’t let that dissuade you, even if you are coming from out of state. This place is anything but the uninspired “house golf” so common elsewhere through CO and the western US. Houses are far away enough that you won’t be fetching balls out of backyards all day. The natural wetland areas, strategically located mature trees, wildlife sightings, and playful mounding/topography more than make up for the presence of houses.

With maybe 2 or 3 exceptions there are truly multiple ways to play just about every single hole. If you don’t take note of the pin position on each hole while on the teebox you will not score well here. Just being in the fairway is not enough. You need to play the angles correctly and lay up in the right spots (especially on holes like #4, #7, #9, #14, #16). A couple of lateral yards in the fairway can be the difference between a great birdie opportunity and having no chance on your approach. If you take a cart, the GPS system is excellent – use it! All that being said, this isn’t really “target golf” per se. GVR can at times be overpowered with distance (especially from the blues), but expect to pay a serious price if you miss in the wrong areas.

The front nine is easier and more straightforward than the back, albeit not by much. Both are enjoyable in their own ways. The par 3s are very tricky and club selection is critical. Except for #18, the par 5s are gettable and provide real opportunities for birdie/eagle. A couple very fun short par 4 risk reward opportunities as well (#4, #7, #14) which I love and think all courses should have more of.

Course conditioning is generally fantastic. Greens were iffy to start off 2020 but they are back to being lightning quick. Some of the best you’ll find on a public track. Practice facilities also outstanding.
Staff couldn’t be more welcoming and friendly. GVR does everything the right way. They are first class stewards of the game and members of the community.

Pace of play is good, bordering on excellent, especially when compared to places like Bear Dance, Arrowhead, Fossil Trace, etc. The more scenic “mountain golf” type tracks in the Denver area are all great in their own ways but good luck getting around them in less than 5 hours.

I overlooked this place for a long time due to it's location all the way out by the airport. I've since played 100+ rounds here and it hasn't gotten old yet. Worth the trek from anywhere in the Denver metro, and would also be a great first or last course to play on a Colorado golf trip.

Great Course and Take a caddie!

I have played 20 of the top 100 courses in the US and this course was great! The course was very fun and every hole was interesting. Conditions were great, pure greens rolling at a 10 on the stimp. They offer caddies where you only have to tip them and they are all kids who are first tee members and the tips help them chase their dreams!!! Take a caddie and help them. Recommended tip 20-40$. A . cart fee is 20$ per person.

Hidden gem

Would not have expected to find a top tier course like this near the Denver airport. Extremely easy to get to from DEN. The course was quite challenging (like any from the Dye lineage) but still enjoyable for a 10 and 25+ handicapper. pace of play was steady for a Sunday

Great Course with Fun Layout and beautiful views

This was my first time playing Green Valley Ranch. We had lunch at the restaurant prior to golf. The waiter in the restaurant was ornery, slow and not too helpful at all.
However, once we got to the clubhouse, everything changed for the better. The clubhouse staff was fantastic, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The course has a great practice are with great driving range with plenty of grass to hit from (i do not like hitting from mats). Huge putting green and chipping area.
One the course, the holes were very fun and varied. The course is a links type course with lots of very long grass off the fairway with lots of bunkers and lots of wind.
The course is very open course with very few trees. The fairways were very nice and in great condition.
The greens were great. The greens were very fast and had tons of slopes and undulations (like a good links type course).
I really liked the layout of the course. This being my first time playing the course, I was very pleased with the directions to holes were well marked and easy to see.
Overall great course. The bunkers were well kept. The wind was blowing hard around 15-20 mph all day long. There were very few trees to block or disrupt the wind. I would highly recommend Green Valley Ranch. Give the course and try and you won't be disappointed.

A good value

I liked the lay out and the value the couse offers. I like that it is close to the airport and easy to get to. Right now the greens are a little bumpy because they were punched a few weeks ago. They have a nice practice area with a chipping and putting green. I will play this course again when in the NE part of town.

Ok, so I've been waiting to write a review on this because there weren't a lot of current ones and not to many descriptions so here we go. Great clubhouse with well stocked pro shop. Driving is nice with range balls already on the range for you and I believe they were Callaway range balls. Huge putting green and chipping area. The started will call you up for your tee time and get you and your group together before sending you to first tee. Now the course, nobody said anything but this is a very open course. Almost every hole has houses on them and there aren't many trees, it kinda has a links style to it. You can see multiple holes at once from wherever you are. Bent grass fairways were nice, the greens can be good, I could tell they aerated a while ago bc some of the indentions were still in the green but those will be going away like always. Great layout, directions to holes were easily marked, carts have GPS and they have multiple tees and on the scorecard it gives you different tee combinations so I think it comes out to like 7 or 8 different tees. Also had a beverage cart going around on a Wednesday so that was a nice surprise. Overall great course, the wind was like 20mph and it whips through this open layout but that's part of the challenge on a windy day right? Give this one a shot and you won't be disappointed
